One of the most powerful things i just learnt today is on the mindset. This refers to your underlying beliefs and assumptions and view of the world. And more often than not these beliefs are based on facts, unchallenged assumptions and out of date information.

The only difference between successful entrepreneurs and everyone else is their mindset. Because many of the entrepreneurs we hear and read about seem larger than life or corrupt individuals, we have perpetuated some myths on entrepreneurship. Some of the common myths on being a successful entrepreneur are that you need a lot of money, have to have an MBA, need to have a revolutionary new idea, priviledged, luck or a rare talent. These may be necessary but not the determining factor for success. However there is a lot of studies, research and testimonies from entrepreneurs that all agree that entrepreneurs, even the successful ones, are just ordinary people who managed to thrive within their circumstances. Some of the charactersistics of a mindset that will set you on the path to success include:

1. ability to solve problems

2. see limitless possibilities

3. challenge beliefs and assumptions

4. persistence, perseverance and determination

And the good thing is that these can all be learnt with a little of acknowledging your ignorance, be willing to take time to understand, hard work and practice. You need to surround yourself with people with the mindset you want to cultivate.

Here are some inspiring quotations to get you thinking.

"What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters, compared to what lies within us."

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.

- Napoleon Hill

Only through focus can you do world-class things, no matter how capable you are.

- Bill Gates

Excellent article Gamu. I agree with your post. It may interest other readers to read one of the best books ever written on entrepreneurship called 'Think and Grow rich' by Napoleone Hill. This book changed my life. Also Rober Kiyosaki's best selling book 'Rich Dad, Poor dad' is a must read. Thanks for sharing these nuggets.
